Another one of our 31 Heroes members is having a fundraising event this summer as the 2nd anniversary of this tragic event comes upon us. The 31 Heroes included 25 special operations members, 5 air crew, and 1 military working dog that were taken from America when the Chinook helicopter they were on was shot down by enemy insurgents in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.

The 2nd Annual Aaron Vaughn Memorial Frogman Swim will take place in Jensen Beach, Florida on June 29, 2013. This event will help raise money for the Operation 300 camp. The event is a little different as it features swimming events…a 1K open water swim, 5K open water swim, and a 200-yard open water swim.

31 Heroes members John (Jet Li) Douangdara and his military working dog Bart are getting a statue that will be placed in the military war dog park in John’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

John and Bart were part of Extortion 17. They were on board a Chinook helicopter when it was shot down by enemy insurgents in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.

The statue unveiling will take place on May 27, 2013 in the Memorial War Dog Park at Siouxland Freedom Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

31 Heroes aircrew member Spencer C Duncan was KIA on August 6, 2011 in Afghanistan when the Chinook he and the other 30 were on was shot down by enemy insurgents. Spencer was 21 years old and from the Olathe, Kansas area.

The 2nd anniversary of the 31 Heroes deaths is coming up. There are many special events being held for these brave men including a 5K run in Spencer’s honor.

The 2nd Annual Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5K will take place on August 3, 2013 and will start at the New Century Air Center in Gardner, Kansas at 7:30am. Highlights of this special event will include several military displays including a Chinook helicopter, as well as local military units running the 5K in formation.

All of the proceeds from this event will go to benefit the Spencer C Duncan Make It Count Foundation which provides scholarships for student veterans of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.

Make it a point this year to attend this special event and learn more about Spencer and how he touched the lives of everyone who had the privilage to know him.

Family and friends of 31 Heroes member, Jon Tumilson, have done a great deal and continue to do a great deal to honor his memory. Jon was on board the Chinook that was shot down by enemy insurgents in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.

On July 12 and 13, a memorial 5K run will take place in Jon’s hometown of Rockford, Iowa. A 5K Honor Run/Walk is also planned.

The registration for this event is $30 for the 5K and $35 for the Honor Run. Sign up early for the Go Crush It 5K.

Jon Tumilson was born July 1, 1976. He completed his BUD/S training in 2002 and was based on the west coast as well as the east coast. Jon loved what he did and believed in the cause he selflessly fought for. Through events like this his memory continues to live on.

Memorial Day is coming up fast. The last Monday in May is always Memorial Day. This is the holiday established to honor and remember all of our fallen military men and women. For those of you not familiar with the history of Memorial Day, it was created after the civil war to honor the fallen Union and Confederate soldiers.

The other cool thing about Memorial Day is it marks the beginning of the summer. It’s also usually the time of year that most of the lakes open up.

Memorial Day is a great time to visit the cemeteries and pay your respects, place some flowers on graves as well as post some American flags to honor our fallen.

On Memorial Day the flag is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon.It is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.

The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. At noon their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.

Please be safe this year as you celebrate Memorial Day. Visit some graves, pay your respects, and place some flags on the graves of our military men and women.

On August 6, 2011 America lost 31 of its very best when the Chinook helicopter they were in was shot down by enemy insurgents in Afghanistan. Among the 31 Heroes were 25 special ops members, 5 flight crew, and 1 military working dog.

Earlier today several family members of the 31 Heroes appeared at a press conference to disclose some never before seen or heard information about how their sons died.

They introduced video today at the conference about the fact that military brass invited a Muslim cleric who said a “prayer”. When the prayer was translated it appears that the cleric damned them as infidels to Allah.

This is tragic. Its appalling to say the very least. Why would our military officials and our government invite a Muslim cleric in the first place to a funeral for our fallen military?

We can only hope that with the efforts of these families, America can get some answers. These 31 Heroes demand only the highest of honors and respects from our government.

Our 31 Heroes we lost on August 6, 2011. Let us never forget their sacrifice.
