Red Shirt Fridays are the day we set aside to show support for our soldiers and our veterans but also the day to honor our fallen! On 6 August 2011, a U.S. CH-47 Chinook military helicopter was shot down while transporting a quick reaction force attempting to reinforce an engaged unit of Army Rangers in Wardak province, west of Kabul, Afghanistan. The resulting crash killed all 38 people on board—25 American special operations personnel, five National Guard crewmen, seven Afghan soldiers and one Afghan interpreter—as well as a U.S. military dog. It is considered the worst loss of life in the Afghanistan campaign since Operation Red Wing in 2005.
As a nation we will never forget the brave sacrifice these men made. Wearing red for Red Shirt Fridays is a great way to honor them. Order your red shirts today for Red Shirt Fridays!
