The 31 heroes T shirt commemorates the thirty-one US soldiers who died on 08/06/2011 when the Chinook helicopter they were traveling in, crashed after being hit by a rocket propelled grenade in Afghanistan. The helicopter was carrying personnel to a night raid mission in the Tangi Valley, in Wardak province when Taliban insurgents attacked it. The 31 heroes were going to support on-ground staff, who were under heavy fire from the Taliban.
22 of the 31 heroes who died were SEAL commandos, including some who were members of SEAL Team 6. The helicopter’s crew of five US servicemen also were also among the 31 heroes.
Seven Afghan soldiers, one civilian interpreter and a service dog also died. The tragic death of the 31 heroes recorded the highest number of American war casualties in just one incident that occurred in the long-drawn war.
President Barrack Obama offered his condolences to the families of the 31 heroes. He said that the death of the soldiers reminded us about the extraordinary sacrifices made by the valiant members of the US armed forces and their families….all for the country.
